Why do we care about migratory birds?
- Migratory birds are an excellent indicator of the overall health of
an ecosystem. When bird species are declining, everyone should be
concerned.
- For the vast majority of people, birds provide an everyday contact
with wildlife and the natural world, especially in the urban
environment.
- Protecting birds makes good business sense. An estimated 63 million
Americans participate in bird-related recreation, generating an
estimated $20 billion for the U.S. economy.
- Migratory birds face serious challenges and need our help. Many
species are in decline because of habitat loss, collisions with
artificial structures, and environmental contaminants.
- Migratory birds cross the boundaries of nations, watersheds, and
ecosystems. Protecting them must be a cooperative effort that involves
multiple jurisdictions and interests.

Given the state of scientific
knowledge and the current usage of cell phones, is this an issue worth
spending tax dollars on? Or, are there other methods or means worth
considering in addressing the issues? Perhaps in contrast to Global
Warming the issue doesn't warrant attention. What are your thoughts?
